Hamburg Science Award 2025 for Florian
Congratulations to Florian who has been awarded the Hamburg Science Award 2025 (topic: Immunomodulation). The Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg honors Florian’s pioneering research on antibody-mediated prevention and treatment of HIV and other viral infections.
Florian’s work focuses on how human B cells develop and produce antibodies against viruses such as HIV, Hepatitis C, Ebola, and SARS-CoV-2, with a special emphasis on broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibodies. The prize money will support his ongoing HIV research—especially investigating why, in some patients, antibody therapy enables long-term control of the virus without medication, and how this effect could be achieved for many more people living with HIV.
